Beginning in July 2011, the Brooks Residency/Fellowship Program will roll out the Women's Health PT Residency under the leadership of Dr. Cindy Neville!
Brooks Rehabilitation has developed a robust Women's Health program. This residency will support the development of this program by creating additional clinical expertise and leaders within this specialty area of practice. Dr. Cindy Neville has been appointed the Program Coordinator for this new residency and she has already begun development of the curricular content and overall logistics for this exciting new program. The curriculum will meet (and exceed) all aspects of the Women's Health Description of Specialist Practice (DSP), which will include content in the areas of:
- Pelvic floor rehabilitation (urinary incontinence, functional bowel disorders, pelvic organ prolapse, pain);
- Pregnancy and postpartum rehabilitation;
- Breast Cancer Rehabilitation and Lymphedema;
- Female athlete; and
- Osteoporosis
Summary of Training
This program will be unique in that it will require that the residents must have already taken Pelvic 1 and OB1 (either sanctioned by the Section on Women's Health and/or taught by Dr. Neville) prior to starting the residency. This program will follow the template as laid out by the other Residency Programs in the following manners:
- The program will be one year in length.
- The residency will be founded on the 5 pillars of the other Residency Programs with the common thread being the mentoring that the residents will receive within all components of the program.
- The residents will participate in combinations of traditional coursework, will perform Directed Learning Activities, and will receive clinical mentoring directly from Dr. Neville while managing their patients in their clinical setting.
- The residents will serve as clinical leaders and change agents for the Brooks Rehabilitation system.
