Patients with a brain injury in a coma or non-responsive state can benefit from another vital program found only at Brooks—the Response Evaluation Program (REP). In this program, patients with a very low functioning level are admitted from an acute care hospital to Brooks. Our board-certified neuropsychologists, along with other highly trained staff, assess the patient's potential recovery level and determine when the patient is ready for rehabilitation.
Patients are monitored over a two-week period to allow for a comprehensive understanding of their needs.
Patients appropriate for the program include:
- Patients with any form of brain injury whose level of functioning is assessed as being less than Level IV on the Rancho Los Amigos Cognitive Scale.
- Patients for whom there are clinical questions regarding cognitive, sensory, or motor functioning.
- Patients requiring formal evaluation of level of responsiveness for projections of long-term medical management needs and overall functional prognosis.
