Your health and quality of life is priceless. At Brooks Rehabilitation, we take that seriously. Our team of experts in Pain Rehabilitation is here to give you the outcome that you deserve. Although each person may have a different definition of success, there are many common areas where improvement can be seen. Our outcomes indicate that you can achieve great improvement in your condition with excellent satisfaction and quality care.
Patients with chronic pain will typically state that their pain controls their life. They are often depressed, anxious, frustrated and fearful of activities that could be painful. This fear, otherwise known as pain catastrophizing, has been strongly linked with increased depression, physical disuse and disability over time. These are exactly the things that our team strives to help you improve.
We’ve been tracking our patients’ outcomes since 2003. Below are graphs that highlight some of our findings. The first graph indicates how pain and activity can change after a few short weeks in the program:
.jpg?item_id=2328001)
- 39% reduction in pain
- 44% decrease in the area of pain
- 65% less interference in their daily activities due to pain
- 62% decrease in concern about pain
- 70% decrease in dissatisfaction with activity
- 63% reduction in difficulty enduring pain
Emotional Outcomes:
Emotional frustration is also common in individuals with chronic pain. This may express itself as depression, frustration, anger or anxiety. Another common concept is catastrophizing. This is seen when individuals believe the worst regarding their condition and may endorse ideas such as “I’ll never be better,” or “Nothing will ever change.” Such ideas also drive patients to avoid normal activities if they anticipate an increase in pain – even without trying the activity. All of these emotions and feelings can be as disabling as the pain itself. The following graph highlights emotional changes that occur with treatment in our program.
