Biofeedback

Biofeedback teaches you to improve your health and performance by using signals from your own body. You are able to literally see how your body is responding to stress and pain. The computerized instrumentation measures and provides biological (bio) information (feedback) to help you learn to control muscle tension and spasms, commonly associated with chronic pain. Muscle relaxation training has been demonstrated to decrease pain and improve rehabilitation.

For example, a patient with muscle tension headaches can learn to control and reduce muscle tension levels using biofeedback techniques, eliminating or significantly reducing the frequency and intensity of headaches. Similarly, patients who have had a stroke or traumatic brain injury, resulting in paralysis or muscle spasms, may be able to regain the control and strength of their affected muscles with the aid of biofeedback therapy. EEG Biofeedback (Neurofeedback) may also be provided to teach patients how to control brainwave activity to improve brain function(s).

Biofeedback therapy has been effectively used to treat:

  • Stroke,
  • Spinal cord and traumatic brain injuries ,
  • Tension and migraine headaches,
  • Incontinence,
  • Attention Deficit Disorder (ADD),
  • Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS),
  • Pain disorders,
  • Stress related disorders,
  • and more.

In order to receive treatment, a physician referral with a diagnosis for which biofeedback has been proven to be effective is required.
