Sharing our expertise with members of the community-Brooks educates the community through fun and engaging events like these:
Our annual community celebration commemorates individual and community accomplishments, honors those making a difference in the lives of persons with disabilities, and raises general awareness of the issues in our area. The event includes informational exhibitions centered on recreational, cultural, physiological and physical opportunities that can further recovery and improve quality of life for those with disabilities.
This annual event, held each October, is the Community Health Advisory Board's primary fundraiser. The proceeds are dedicated to supporting unfunded programs and services for patients suffering from strokes, brain and spinal cord injuries, and other disabling conditions.
Stroke Community Health Summit - This free event provided an excellent opportunity for members of the community to become educated about stroke, including warning signs and treatment. Experts from Brooks, the Mayo Clinic and Shands-Jacksonville discussed the latest in stroke prevention, treatment and rehabilitation.
Youth Leadership Jacksonville Health & Human Services Program Day
Brooks annually hosts 50 high school students from the Youth Leadership Jacksonville program, which is made up of our area's best and brightest youth. Students participate in educational programs about the rehabilitation experience, in both inpatient and outpatient settings, and receive prevention messages from staff and patients.
In addition to offering free health education forums for the general public, Brooks also conducts continuing education programs for healthcare professionals. Past programs have included Chronic Pain Rehabilitation, Continuum of Care, Case Management of a Rare Disease and Adolescent Driving Evaluation.
