The Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Studies Clinical Research Lab is located three blocks south of Brooks Rehabilitation Hospital at 3901 University Blvd. South, Suite 101, Jacksonville, FL 32216. Located near major interstate highways, the Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Center's Clinical Research lab is less than 20 miles from the Jacksonville International Airport. The Brooks Clinical Research Center provides ample free and handicap accessible parking.
The Brooks Center for Rehabilitation Studies features a 4,000 sq. ft. clinical research center. Our Center is capable of concurrently conducting multiple clinical trials. The Center's physical plant includes:
- A computer and communications network that is fully integrated with both the Brooks Rehabilitation and University of Florida information and communication networks
- Ample office, treatment and locked storage space for investigative teams with a staff conference room and a reception area for clinical trial participants
- A large conference room with full videoconferencing equipment and networking capabilities to conference with Shands Jacksonville, Gainesville VA and University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions
- A state-of-the art 1,800 sq. ft. human performance laboratory. This Human Motor Performance Laboratory is an integral part of the Brooks Clinical Research Center described above. The laboratory provides state-of-the-art measurement and analysis of normal and abnormal human movement particularly among individuals with mobility limitations. Its equipment collects kinematic, kinetic, temporospatial and electromyographic data—providing for the development and testing of new rehabilitation interventions. The laboratory features:
- A Vicon 3-dimensional motion analysis measurement system
- A Konigsburg 16-channel telemetry EMG system
- Two AMTI force plates
- 2 Robomedica Body Weight Support Systems for locomotor training
- A custom-made overhead partial bodyweight support system that allows overground locomotion
- A GaitRite Portable Walkway System
- Equipment to measure psychophysiological sensitivity to pain (including pain perception and tolerance) via devices that measure: thermal pain, cold pressor pain and mechanical pain via blood pressor cuff (tourniquet test)
- Equipment to measure inhalatory and exhalatory air pressure
